School Secretary

Orange-Ulster BOCES is seeking a School Secretary to join the Instructional Support Services Division. This work involves the responsibility for varied secretarial and office management functions of a routine nature. This position is distinguished from Senior Typist and typist by the fact that the duties and responsibilities are more diversified in nature allowing for greater opportunity to exercise judgment in completion of secretarial duties. The incumbent acts as a secretary to an administrator or administrators. Work is performed under general supervision and may involve leading and directing the work of subordinate clerical employees. Involves public and student contact. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Uses words processing software or typewriters to prepare correspondence, reports, discipline, notifications, newsletters, vouchers, or other materials from clear copy, rough draft or recorded dictation;

Maintain student records and personnel files utilizing computer database;

Prepares daily attendance reports

Composes correspondence upon verbal direction of the Principal;

Attends to operation of the administrative office including budget preparation, billing and other fiscal matter and requisitioning and control of supplies;

Maintains master calendar for school including use of building by outside groups;

Calls and arranges for substitutes;

Monitors petty cash account and tracks purchase order activity;

Answers telephones, providing routine information and directing calls to appropriate offices;

Operates a variety of office equipment including copiers, fax machines, computers and peripheral equipment.

Instructional Specialist - Full Time (3 Vacancies)

The Orange-Ulster BOCES' Division of Instructional Support Services is seeking (3) full-time Instructional Specialists to join our dynamic and innovative staff development team. 

Full-time Instructional Specialists will be responsible for providing expert level learning experiences for educators and K-12 students.  Instructional Specialists will present online, hybrid, and live-in-person professional learning courses for educators as well as provide expert level model instruction to students in person, using online formats, and distance learning platforms.

Successful candidates have at least 3-5 years of teaching experience as well as experience designing and implementing professional learning.  Prior experience teaching ENL/ELL or bilingual students is important for this role.  Candidates must have strong communication skills and technology skills. 

The Instructional Specialist will teach students using innovative, content-rich, technology-infused methods as well as model for, support, train and guide teachers, librarians, administrators, and other school staff to use innovative, content-rich, technology- infused methods to effectively bring the curriculum and student learning alive.  The Instructional Specialist will conduct professional learning experiences in their curriculum area, lead interdisciplinary workshops, coach teachers how to best use content area and instructional technology in the classroom, run curriculum meetings, lead curriculum development projects, collaborate with other staff developers, technology integration specialists, instructional specialists and TAs. 

The ideal candidate will be organized, tech-savvy, have broad teaching and presentation experience, able to work as a member of a team, have knowledge of methods for supporting linguistically diverse students in the content/subject areas, have content area/subject expertise, and have excellent interpersonal skills.

Technology Integration Specialist

Qualifications:

Candidate must hold valid NYS Teacher Certification. Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, experience in successful planning and delivery of Pre-k to Grade 12 teacher and leader professional development/continuing education, knowledge of NYS Learning Standards, and assessment practices, an understanding of innovative uses of technology in the classroom, expertise in the integration of related technology including software, hardware, and peripherals into instruction, experience in the application of multi-media technology, and a deep understanding of theories of adult learning and student learning and their implications for professional learning (PL)/CTLE and instructional coaching.

Responsibilities:

  • Building relationships with component district and BOCES teachers and leaders centered on increasing the thoughtful integration of technology into instruction
  • Planning and delivering PL/CTLE on a regular basis
  • Participation in specialist-level PL/CTLE to ensure that the specialist’s knowledge is up to date
  • Integrating aspects of the NYS standards, curriculum, and assessment requirements into PL/CTLE and instructional coaching.
  • Providing component district and BOCES teachers and leaders with up to date information about hardware, software and peripherals in education
  • Integrating multimedia technology into PL/CTLE and coaching
  • Collaboratively designing P-12 instructional materials, tasks, and experiences
  • Integrating AI technology into PL/CTLE and coaching
  • Engaging teachers in meaningful instructional coaching experiences
  • Assure that PL/CTLE and coaching reflect current theories of learning and the developmental difference of the age bands being addressed in any situation, and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Other information:

This is a 10-month teacher position. This position reports to the Director of Instructional Support Services.
