Social Studies Instructional Specialist (Part-time)

The Orange-Ulster BOCES' Division of Instructional Support Services is seeking a part-time Social Studies Instructional Specialist to join our dynamic and innovative staff development team to design and deliver professional learning experiences focused on school leadership issues and challenges, engage in leadership coaching, and develop and implement curriculum, management, and assessment projects for leaders and teachers in our region.

  • Must hold NYS 7-12 Social Studies certificate
  • Has at least 3-5 years of teaching and/or school counseling experience 
  • Is proficient in technology with the ability to seamlessly utilize Google Suite products, Microsoft Word, Excel, and online course platforms
  • Has experience developing and delivering engaging and interactive professional learning experiences in the following settings: in-person, online live synchronous webinars, and online asynchronous self-paced courses
  • Is knowledgeable about NYS standards, evaluation, accountability, curriculum, and assessment systems
  • Has excellent verbal and written skills

The full-time Instructional Specialist will be responsible for providing expert level learning experiences for educators and K-12 students.  The Instructional Specialist will present online, hybrid, and live-in-person professional learning courses for educators as well as provide expert-level model instruction to students in person, using online formats, and distance learning platforms.

Successful candidates have at least 3-5 years of teaching experience as well as experience designing and implementing professional learning.  Candidates must have strong communication skills and technology skills. 

The Instructional Specialist will teach students using innovative, content-rich, technology-infused methods as well as model for, support, train and guide teachers, librarians, administrators, and other school staff to use innovative, content-rich, technology- infused methods to effectively bring the curriculum and student learning alive.  The Instructional Specialist will conduct professional learning experiences in their curriculum area, lead interdisciplinary workshops, coach teachers how to best use content area and instructional technology in the classroom, run curriculum meetings, lead curriculum development projects, collaborate with other staff developers, technology integration specialists, instructional specialists and teaching assistants.  

The ideal candidate will be organized, tech-savvy, have broad teaching and presentation experience, able to work as a member of a team, have knowledge of methods for supporting a wide range of students in the content/subject areas, have content area/subject expertise, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
