Your Impact:

As a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped, you will:

  • Assess and understand each student’s needs to maximize their speech-language proficiency and communication effectiveness.
  • Conduct individual and group sessions, support with push-in services as appropriate, and collaborate regularly with classroom teachers.
  • Develop and implement instructional strategies, materials, and environments that enhance students' speech and language functioning.

Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired

Job description 

Work in an exciting and meaningful field teaching children with developmental disabilities.  

We are seeking a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired to provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments. Orange-Ulster BOCES provides the foundation and knowledge that enables its students to venture forth in any direction they choose. 

Students served (K-12) include individuals with significant developmental and intellectual disabilities, social/emotional needs, behavior management needs and/or learning differences.  

You’ll do this by: 

  • Understanding the needs that will maximize a student's visual functioning through work in/pull-out individual sessions, support with push-in services as appropriate and collaborating with classroom teachers regularly 

  • Serving as the subject matter expert, working directly with identifying, developing, and implementing appropriate instructional strategies, materials, equipment, and environmental factors that will maximize a student's visual functioning 

  • Drafting appropriate annual goals and short-term objectives to present at the annual CSE meeting, evaluating and re-evaluating the short-term objectives on a regular basis 

  • Possessing the critical thinking skills to effectively develop and deliver training and information for special education personnel and parents and the student’s sighted peers in understanding the unique educational needs and learning characteristics of visually impaired students

Substitute Teachers - CTE

Substitute Teacher positions are available in our Career and Technical Education division in all content areas. 

Monday - Friday, 7:45am- 3:15pm

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis throughout the 2025-2026 school year.

ESL Teacher of Adults Ages 21 and Older

English as Second Language (ESL) teachers in Adult Education provide instruction in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and 

speaking. 

  • Incorporate civics education within the ESL curriculum and implement differentiated instruction to meet the needs of a variety of English Language Learner levels. 
  • Maintain accurate attendance and testing records and administer the Best Plus and Best Literacy assessment. 
  • Collaborate with literacy case managers and the data manager regarding testing needs of students.

Part-time, Monday–Thursday.

Times Vary: Hours may be 9am–12pm, 12-3pm or 6-9pm

School Media Specialist (Library)

Orange-Ulster BOCES provides the foundation and knowledge that enables its students to venture forth in any direction they choose.

We are seeking a School Media Specialist who will be responsible for the planning and managing of a library media center and for the BOCES media services for school districts in accordance with district and state guidelines.

Students served (K-12) include individuals with significant developmental and intellectual disabilities, social/emotional needs, behavior management needs and/or learning differences.

You’ll do this by:

  • Instructing staff on a formal and informal basis on skills related to research, production of materials and the use of information technologies
  • Making resources available to teachers through an organized collection of materials, assisting users in identifying, locating and interpreting information
  • Integrating information skills throughout the school's instructional program, teaching and reinforcing instruction designed to make staff effective users of information
  • Promoting student reading experiences and the teaching of the library curriculum
  • Coordinating the selection, ordering, circulation and inventory of all library/media materials, with the responsibility for the budgetary aspects of the library/media program
  • Promoting lifelong learning by fostering positive attitudes toward libraries
  • Providing consultant service to teachers and administrators
  • Assisting in the in-service training of staff on matters relating to instructional materials and the use of library facilities
