We are seeking a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped to provide comprehensive services to students in the areas of language, speech and communication development.
Orange-Ulster BOCES provides the foundation and knowledge that enables its students to venture forth in any direction they choose.
Students served (K-12) include individuals with significant developmental and intellectual disabilities, social/emotional needs, behavior management needs and/or learning differences.
You’ll do this by:
• Understanding the needs that will maximize a student's speech-language proficiency and communication effectiveness through work in individual and group sessions, support with push-in services as appropriate and collaborating with classroom teachers regularly
• Serving as the subject matter expert, working directly with identifying, developing and implementing appropriate instructional strategies, materials, equipment and environmental factors that will maximize a student's speech and language functioning
• Evaluating short-term objectives on a regular basis
• Possessing the critical thinking skills to effectively assess, develop and deliver training and information for special education personnel and parents in augmentative and alternative communication systems

What you bring to our team:
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Valid teaching credential authorizing specialized services for students in the area of Speech and Hearing Handicapped or Speech and Language Disabilities
• Experience preparing sequential and meaningful instruction geared to the student’s assessed needs, IEP goals and objectives, functioning, and motivational levels
• A personal drive for continuous learning and a desire to develop your skills
