Teacher of Mandarin Chinese

Orange-Ulster Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) is seeking qualified candidates to fill multiple anticipated openings for the position of “Teacher of Mandarin Chinese” at its Goshen, New York location, for the 2025-2026 school year.
The Teacher of Mandarin Chinese position is responsible for developing and delivering lessons on Mandarin Chinese (reading, writing, listening, and speaking Mandarin Chinese), as well as Chinese culture and geography to students Grades 7-12. Specifically, the Teacher of Mandarin Chinese position will require the qualified candidate to: (1) develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the educational institution’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation, as required; (2) prepare lessons that reflect strategies for accommodating individual student learning differences; (3) plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment and technology in various forms to address the needs and learning styles of the students; (4) present instructional curriculum in accordance with New York State Department of Education guidelines, as well as applicable administrative regulations and board policies; (5) design and implement an assessment program by using different teaching methods and tools (i.e., lectures, projects, classroom discussion,demonstrations, etc.); (6) establish course objectives for lessons, units, projects, etc. working directly with students on their language development skills; (7) evaluate students’ resource needs as applied to the Mandarin Chinese language; (8) communicate regularly with students and parents regarding learning progress; (9) compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents, as required; (10) manage student behavior in accordance with the educational institution’s rules and policies; (11) create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students; (12) comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers; (13) participate in staff development activities to improve and/or stay abreast of job-related skills; and (14) participate in department staff meetings, professional development activities and workshops.
